Northern Brigade General Orders
- All units in the Northern Brigade must be capable of performing the entirety of the 1764 Manual of Arms.
- The Northern Brigade will form in two battalions unless numbers are too low—the Royal Battalion, to be composed of the King’s 8th and KRRNY, and the Ranger Battalion, to be composed of the King’s Rangers, Queen’s Rangers, Butler’s Rangers, and Fraser’s Rangers. The default formation will be—Royal Battalion, King’s 8th on the right, KRRNY LI on the left, KRR Grens and Duncan’s in the center. Ranger Batt, Fraser’s Rangers on the Right, Butler’s Rangers on the left, King’s and Queen’s Rangers by seniority in the center.
- All units in the Northern Brigade must be capable of maintaining loose order—that is, eighteen (18”) inches between files. This is best achieved by ordering “At loose order—Eyes Right!” (From the position of Shoulder). At this command, every man should turn his head smartly to the right (except the right marker) and extend his right hand until it touches the shoulder blade of the man next to him.
- Loose order is the dressing order of the Brigade. Light troops may (should) adopt Open Order at all times.
- All Northern Brigade units will fight in two ranks. There are no exceptions.
- All Northern Brigade units must know how to extend to two and six pace intervals, and how to close to the center, right, and left. All Northern Brigade units must know how to skirmish in two ranks.
- All Northern Brigade units should be familiar with the “Zeal and Bayonets” charge (NB Maneuver One) and the Passage of lines (NB Maneuver Two).
- All Northern Brigade units must know how to perform the position of arms known as “Carry” or “Port” or “Prepare to Charge.”
- All Northern Brigade officers below the rank of Major are to have a fusil. No exceptions. Those above the rank of Captain may choose to have a fusil, a spontoon, or just a sword. However, those who carry a sword are responsible for learning the 1796 sword manual (available as a PDF here on the 10th Regiment website.)
- All Northern Brigade officers and NCOs are responsible for knowing the bugle calls.
- The Northern Brigade’s music call is “Roast Beef of Old England.”
- The Royal Battalion’s music call is the “Hohenfriedberger March.”
- The Ranger Battalion’s music call is “Garryowen.”
